Are you ready for a hefty dose of truth, my friend? In sales, especially remote sales, it’s rarely sufficient to just hope for success. Sure, positive thinking is great, but it’s just part of the equation. To truly succeed, it requires a combination of positivity, learning, applying, iterating, and being consistent. Let’s dig deeper into this.
Learn. Whether you’re a newly recruited salesperson or have years of experience, there’s one thing you should never stop doing: learning. Why? Everything is constantly changing – the market, trends, technology. To stay current and relevant, you need to constantly update your knowledge. But also to evolve, instead of the opposite. How do you do that? By reading books, listening to podcasts, taking online courses, following industry leaders, and by always being curious.
Apply. Now that you’ve stocked up on knowledge, it’s time to apply it. New knowledge that just sits on the shelf collecting dust is of little use. Have you learned a new closing technique that seems effective? Try it out directly. Heard about a new way to more efficiently uncover customer needs? Try it with the next customer. Don’t hesitate to put your new knowledge into practice.
Iterate. This is where many salespeople stumble. They acquire new knowledge, try it, and when things don’t work perfectly the first time, they give up. Come on, nobody said it would all work the first time. If something doesn’t work as you hoped, adjust, improve, and try again. Progress is made by iterating.
Be Consistent. You’ve learned something new. You’ve applied it. You’ve iterated and improved. Good job. But you’re not done yet. You need to be consistent in your development. Consistent work and discipline build lasting success.
Sales is no child’s play. It requires persistence, adaptability, and a constant willingness to learn and grow. Whether you’ve just been recruited into this world, or if you’re an experienced veteran, remember: Learning that is implemented and adjusted is the key to success, not just in sales but in life too. Now – go out and push on!
